Driving after amputation
September 14, 2022The use of prosthesis on primary controls for driving is questionable, and is usually dependent on the length of the residual limb as well as how well the individual has developed a sense of where the end of the prosthesis is. Generally speaking a well rehabilitated person with a below knee amputation can learn to drive with their prosthesis, however with an above knee amputation should preferably drive with adaptations.
Whether driving with adaptations or prosthesis, the driver is required to redo their driving test and their licence endorsed accordingly.
